CEO, Inclusive Economics
Betony found her home in the Sierra Nevada and found her people in the Sierra Business Council. After graduating from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, an initially brief stay in Truckee during the snowy winter of 2004 seeded a lifelong passion for rural social, economic, and environmental sustainability and a lifelong commitment to the Sierra Business Council. Seeing SBC as a model unique in the world, she joined the staff as a manager of the sustainable forestry program and then became Director of Program Development, launching the Sierra Nevada Geotourism initiative, Sierra Nevada Energy Watch, and the Sierra Nevada Local First program and pioneering SBC’s shift to fee-for-service revenue generation. Betony left SBC in 2009 to focus on the intersection of climate change and workforce development. She is the founder of Inclusive Economics and now lives in the Bay Area with her husband, two kids, dog, and year-round garden. She joined the Board of Directors in 2016.
