California Jobs First in the Capital region (made up of Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties) is known as We Prosper Together.

This program was created to promote sustainable, equitable, and resilient regional economies. Sierra Business Council (SBC) has served as the Community Ambassador for Placer and El Dorado Counties since 2023, supporting economic development partnerships and the advancement of California Jobs First economic plans and strategies. SBC continues to create diversified local economies by developing sustainable industries with inclusive pathways for the historically disinvested, especially Latino and Tribal communities in this subregion and the greater Sierra region.

Equitable Economic Development Planning

• Placer and El Dorado County We Prosper Together-  Quarterly Round Table- A place to connect and co-create the inclusive economy together.

• • • Join us on zoom each quarter. Our next meeting takes place: Sept 25 at 11 a.m. 

• Latino-led Community Development Corporation (CDC)

• • • Funded by Sierra Health Foundation and in partnership with the Latino Leadership Council, Sacramento Environmental Justice Coalition, and Aquaria Funding Solutions, we are conducting a study to assess the feasibility of creating a CDC to support entrepreneurship and workforce development and access to affordable housing for the Latino population in Placer county.  The CDC is a powerful pathway  that can help lead our Latino communities to self-sufficiency, socioeconomic prosperity, and generational wealth.  Learn more at (SBC’s Latino Resource page).

• Tribal Economic Development Strategies

• • Funded by California Jobs First and in partnership with Indigenous Futures Society and Forest Business Alliance, we are conducting a Regional Labor Market and Industry Analysis to support the development of Tribe-specific regional economic development strategies.  Some of the strategies may  including forest guardianship (monitoring, mapping, cultural fire, biochar), indigenous foods and plant medicine, indigenous arts, and cultural immersion experiences.  Email us to get involved.

Inclusive Engagement with Placer County Plans

• The Latino Engagement Framework for Placer County

• • • Funded by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments’ Engage, Empower, Implement program and in partnership with the Latino Leadership Council, we developed a framework to support Latino Engagement in the Placer County 2050 General Plan Update, and to begin creating a pathway for long-term capacity building between the county and the Latino community.

• Foresthill Divide Community Protection Project (Placer County)

• • Funded by Sierra Nevada Conservancy and in partnership with Placer County Regional Forest Health and Indigenous Futures Society, we are developing a framework to engage local Tribes in planning for forest health and wildfire resilience in the Foresthill Divide.

Our inclusive economy team is working to build the capacity of our communities to pursue sustainable and equitable economic growth in ways that (marginalized) communities define for themselves.  We wish to create living-wage opportunities (full time employment with benefits) for everyone, by driving the growth of climate-resilient careers and industries.  We are working towards a carbon-neutral, culturally diverse future for the region and beyond.
