Sierra SBDC celebrates #SBDCDAY March 21st

Tomorrow, March 21st, Small Business Development Centers all over the country will come together to celebrate #SBDCDAY, a “national proclamation of the impact of America’s SBDCs on the success of our nation’s dreamers, innovators and doers – America’s small businesses.”

COMM JC ShopLocalimage 2016 12This is a day when SBDCs will be sharing their client’s successes, economic impacts, and results nationwide. To celebrate our own Sierra SBDC version of #SBDCDay, we wanted to share the national impacts of America’s SBDCs, as well as highlight some of our results from our 2017 impact report.

In a report by the Small Business Administration (SBA) detailing the 2015-2016 America’s SBDC Economic Impacts, SBDCs reported:

  • $5.16 billion in financing (meaning every 10 minutes, SBDC clients generated $100,000 in capital!)
  • 96,095 jobs created (the national job growth average is 1.8%, for SBDC clients, it is 14.8%!)
  • 17,174 new business started (a new business every 30 minutes!)

These are the national numbers, so you might be wondering, what about the SBDC in my area? Well, the Sierra SBDC is delighted to share that we had our most successful year yet since taking over the contract in 2014.

In 2017, we assisted 341 clients through more than 1,600 hours of business consulting. In our region, we assisted clients with the following milestones:

  • $7.3 million in capital infusion
  • 88 jobs created and retained
  • 26 new businesses started

A highlight of this past year was assisting Truckee Yoga Collective in the fall of 2017 with marketing strategy and partnership assistance as they prepared to open their doors. We were honored when co-owner Meghan Ruiz shared this quote about her time with the Sierra SBDC: “Truckee Yoga Collective contacted SBDC shortly before opening the studio in October 2017. We received quality, professional support and advice, specifically around our desired area of interest: social media marketing. With the help of the SBDC, our membership continues to grow beyond our initial 90 that bought our grand opening special.”

The Sierra SBDC is proud of the national impact of all the SBDCs, and we are happy to share these results and celebrate #SBDCDAY on March 21st. If you or someone you know has been impacted by the Sierra SBDC, please feel free to share our posts or spread the word on the 21st! And if you have a business that needs assistance starting, growing, or thriving, make sure to call us at 530-582-5022 to see how we can help!
