The Sierra Small Business Development Center’s Winning Team

As indicated by the falling leaves, finally-cooling temperatures, and inescapable seasonal coffee flavorings, the fourth quarter of 2017 is hitting its stride and the Sierra Small Business Development Center is starting to take stock of our year. It seems like a good time to recognize several notable achievements we’ve had this year; specifically, the achievements of our amazing team.

SBDC Team Cropped 2017 11You might recognize our team members from business consulting, phone calls, networking, workshops and classes, volunteering, speaking, facilitating, or managing events in towns across the Sierra. But there is one thing you probably haven’t heard about us yet – we are 2017 nominees and award winners!

Leslie Williams, consultant and outreach coordinator for the Sierra SBDC, was nominated this year as Northeastern California’s STATE STAR! State Stars are SBDC employees exhibiting exemplary performance who have made a significant contribution to their network and shown a strong commitment to small business. Leslie was selected from dozens of consultants, and traveled to Nashville, TN to receive this prestigious award (that’s right, she won!) from the national network of America’s SBDCs. A well deserved honor for a top performing consultant; Leslie has assisted hundreds of clients in starting businesses, creating jobs, and bringing capital infusion into the Sierra.

Earlier this year, Kristin York was named 2017 Counselor of the Year by the US Small Business Administration’s Sacramento District Office. Kristin is Vice President of Business Innovation at SBC and the director of the Sierra Small Business Development Center, overseeing a program that in 2016 brought in $12 million dollars of capital infusion to the Sierra. Kristin brings boundless energy and years of expertise to all corners of the Sierra SBDC region, ensuring that businesses receive the technical assistance they need to help them start, grow, and thrive.

Chelsea Walterscheid and Jessica Carr were both nominated for a Volunteer of the Year award in 2017 for their hard work in Truckee. Chelsea, nominated in the Best of North Lake Tahoe/Truckee awards as the Best Volunteer of 2017, and Jessica, nominated by the Truckee Chamber of Commerce as one of the 2017 Volunteers of the Year, are Program Managers of the Sierra Small Business Development Center at SBC.

As a team and a part of SBC, we work hard to bring prosperity and vitality to the Sierra Nevada. We are honored to be recognized for our work in this region and look forward to continuing these efforts and growing our impact in 2018.
